At this time Yahweh told Joshua, 'Make flint knives and circumcise the Israelites a second time.'

The reason why Joshua circumcised them was this: all the males old enough to bear arms who had come out of Egypt had died in the wilderness.

All the people who came out of Egypt had been circumsized, but none of those born during the journey in the wilderness had been circumcized.

For forty years the Israelites had travelled through the wilderness until all the men old enough to bear arms when they left Egypt had died, since they had not obeyed Yahweh.

For Yahweh had sworn to them that they would not see the land that he had solemnly promised to give them--a land flowing with milk and honey.

So Yahweh had their sons take their place, and these were the ones Joshua circumcised.

When the whole nation had been circumcised, they stayed there in the camp until they had healed.
