There was an old prophet living in Bethel, and he found the man of God sitting under an oak tree. The prophet said to him, 'Are you the man of God who came from Judah?' And he replied 'I am.'

The prophet said, 'Come home with me and eat some food.'

But the man of God said, 'I cannot, for Yahweh commanded me, "Do not eat food, drink water, or return the same way you came."'

Then the prophet said to him, 'I am also a prophet, and an angel gave me Yahweh's command: "Bring him back to your house so he may eat and drink water."' But the prophet was lying.

The man of God went back to his house with him and ate food and drank water.

As they sat at the table, the word of Yahweh came to the prophet, and he said to the man of God from Judah, 'Yahweh says, "Because you have disobeyed Yahweh's command by eating and drinking, your body will not be buried in your family tomb."'

When the prophet from Judah finished eating and drinking, he went on his way.

Then a lion encountered him on the road and killed him.

When the prophet heard about this, he went and found the body on the road. He said, 'It is the man of God who disobeyed the command of Yahweh. Yahweh has given him to the lion, which mauled and killed him, in accordance with Yahweh's words.'
