The other woman said, 'No, the living son is mine and the dead one is yours!' But the first woman said, 'No, the dead son is yours and the living son is mine!' And they went on arguing before the king.

So they brought a sword before the king, and he said, 'Cut the living child in two and give half to each mother.'
But then the mother whose son was alive was filled with compassion for her son and said, 'My lord, give her the living child, just don't kill him!' But the other woman said, 'Let it be neither of ours! Cut it!'
