Ahithophel said to Absalom, 'Let me take 12,000 men and pursue David this very night. I will kill only the king and return the entire army unharmed.'
This seemed like a good idea to Absalom, but Absalom said, 'Summon Hushai the Arkite and let's hear what he has to say.'
So Hushai came to Absalom, and Absalom told him what Ahithophel had advised. But Hushai said, 'Ahithophel's advice is not good at this time. You know your father and his men. They are as dangerous as a mother bear robbed of her cubs.'
'Let all of Israel be mustered to you, numbering like the sand by the sea. Lead them personally into battle, and neither he nor any of the men with him will be spared alive. Not a single one!'
Then Absalom said, 'The advice of Hushai the Arkite is better than the advice of Ahithophel.'
