David and all the Israelites advanced on Jerusalem, which is to say Jebus.
The Jebusites lived there and were land's original inhabitants.
The inhabitants of Jebus said to David, 'You cannot get in here! The blind and the lame will turn you away!'
David said on that day, 'Whoever attacks the Jebusites must use the water tunnel to get to the blind and lame who David hates with his entire being!'

David said on that day, 'Whoever kills a Jebusite first will become commanding general!'
So Joab attacked first.
And David captured the fortress of Zion.
And Joab became the army general.
David lived in the fortress, and so it was known as the City of David. He built up the city all around it.
King Hyram of Tyre sent David messengers with cedar logs, carpenters, and stonemasons. And they built a palace for David.

For this reason it is said, 'The blind and the lame may not enter the palace.'
