Sometime later God tested Abraham. He said to him, "Abraham!" And Abraham replied, "Here I am."

Then God said, "Take your only and beloved son Isaac and go to the land of Moriah. Offer him there as a burnt sacrifice on one of the mountains I will show you."

So Abraham got up early in the morning and when he had cut enough wood for the burnt sacrifice, he saddled his donkey.

He took with him two servants and his son Isaac, and set out for the place God told him about.

On the third day, Abraham looked up and saw the place in the distance.

He said to his servants, "Stay here with the donkey. The boy and I will go over there and worship, then we will come back to you."

Abraham laid the wood for the burnt sacrifice on his son Isaac, while he carried the fire and the knife, and the two of them walked together. Isaac said to his father, "Father, there is wood and fire for the burnt sacrifice, but where is the lamb?"
Abraham replied, "God himself will provide the lamb for the burnt offering, my son." And the two of them walked together.

When they reached the place God told him about, Abraham built an altar, and on it he arranged the wood.

Then he tied up his son.

And he laid him on top of the wood on the altar.

Then Abraham reached out his hand and took the knife to kill his son.

But the angel of Yahweh called to him from the sky, "Abraham! Abraham!" And Abraham replied, "Here I am."

The angel said, "Do not lay your hand on the boy, for now I know that you fear God since you did not withhold your only son from me."

Abraham looked up and saw a ram caught by its horns in a thicket.

He took the ram offered it as a burnt sacrifice instead of his son.

Abraham called that place "Yahweh will provide" and to this day, it is said, "On the mountain of Yahweh, it will be provided."
