The two angels came to Sodom in the evening, and Abraham’s nephew Lot was sitting at the city gate.

Lot said, "My lords, please turn aside to your servant's house. Wash your feet and spend the night, and then wake up early and go your way."

"No," they said, "we'll spend the night in the square."

But Lot insisted so strongly that they turned aside and went into his house.

He made a feast for them, and they ate.

Before they lay down, however, all the men of the entire city of Sodom, both young and old, surrounded the house.

They called to Lot, "Where are the men who came to you tonight? Bring them out to us so we can have sex with them!"

Lot went outside and shut the door behind him. He said, "No, my brothers, do not be so wicked! Look, I have two virgin daughters. Let me bring them out to you, and you may do to them whatever you wish!"

"Just don't do anything to these men, for they have come under the protection of my roof!" said Lot. But they said, "Step aside!"

And they said, "This man came here as a foreigner, and now he wants to judge us? Now we'll treat you more wickedly than we treat them!"

They pressed hard against Lot and moved in to break down the door.

So the men reached out and pulled Lot inside the house and shut the door.

Then they struck with blindness the men who were at the door, young and old, so that they could not find the door.

And the men said to Lot, "Do you have anyone else here? Anyone in the city who belongs to you? Get them out, for we are going to destroy this place. Yahweh sent us to destroy it."

So Lot went out and said to the men betrothed to his daughters, "Hurry! Get out of this place, for Yahweh is about to destroy the city!"

But the men betrothed to his daughters thought he was kidding them.

When dawn came, the two men urged Lot, saying, "Get up! Take your wife and your two daughters or you will be destroyed along with the wickedness of the city!" But Lot hesitated.

So the men grabbed the hands of Lot, his wife, and his two daughters, and took him out of the city.

When they had brought them outside, they said, "Flee for your lives! Do not look behind you or stop anywhere in the valley. Flee to the mountains, or you will be destroyed!"

Then Yahweh rained down fire and burning sulfur.

On Sodom.

And Gomorrah.

He vanquished those cities and all the inhabitants of the valley, and everything that grew on the ground.
